The way we feel after the less of a beloved, dear relative of friend is called grief.

When this emotion occurs amongst a group of people in a gathering is called mourning.

There is no way of mourning when a person loses something,He does not care in what way he expresses his grief.

When we remember Karbala, we cry over our Mazloom Imam (a.S). This is the spirit of mourning. It is based upon love. The remembrance of Imam Hussain (a.S)is the greatest act of humanity. When we remember Imam Hussain <a.S> we also are remembering Allah, Nabi (p.b.u.h) and Aimmah (a.S).
The Nabi (p.b.u.h) which Musalmans followed, His (P.b.u.h) grand son (a.S) and his Family (a.S) were brutally martyred in Karbala. As we all know that when Bibi Fatima Zahra (s.A) was married, salt and water of this entire world was gifted by Allah. The followers of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) knew that the water was the property of Bibi Pak Fatima Zahra (s.A) and still they did'nt let Imam Hussain (a.S) and his Family (a.S) drink. The grand daughters of Nabi pak <s.A.w> were taken bareheaded in the courts and bazars. All of this was done by the so called followers of Prophet Muhammad (s.A.w). That was such a scene which caused the heavens and the earth to shake.

Imam zainul Abideen <a.S> :-
''After the martydom of Imam hussain <a.S> the sky shed the blood with the red storm''.
(Syed ul Shuhda Masoomeen (a.s) ki nazar may page42)

The redness of the Sunset and Sunrise is a sign that it is mourning for Imam Hussain
(Tafseer Noor-e-Saqalain, Vol 4, Pg 628).

Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said:
O' Zurarah! The sky had cried for forty days over (the martyrdom of) Husain (A.S.)
(Mustadrak al-Wasail, vol. 1, pg. 391).

These are the very few masaibs of Imam Hussain (a.S) and His Family (a.S). Any one who has even a litte emaan (faith) will unable to bear hearing the masaib of Imam Hussain (a.S) and His Family (a.S).

Every Prophet (a.S) knew the details of karbala. Every Prophet and his successor wept over Imam Hussain (a.S) throughout their whole lives.
The first Prophet (Hazrat Adam-AS) first ever action was to mourn Imam Hussain . -
(Bihar-al-anwar, Vol 1, pg 85)

The first Zakir of Imam Hussain was Hazrat Jibriel and the first listener and mourner was Hazrat Adam (a.S). -

Mourning of Angels for Imam Hussain (a.S)
Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said:
Allah has appointed to the grave of Imam Husain (A.S.), four thousand anguished and grief-stricken angels, who weep over him (and shall continue to do so) up to the Day of Judgment.
(Kamil al-Ziyaraat, pg.: 119.)

Not only Prophets and angels but our Imam (a.S) also grief all thier lives for Imam Hussain (a.S).
Mourning for Imam Husain (a.s.) of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.)
It is narrated from Imam Reza (a.s.); “When the month of Moharrum would come, none would see my father smiling. This would continue till Aashuraa. On the day of Aashuraa, his (a.s.) sorrow would become severe. He (a.s.) would be continuously crying and heard saying, ‘This is the day on which Husain (a.s.) had been killed''
( [Husain - Nafs-e-Mutmainnah Pg 56].)

Mourning for Imam Husain (a.s.) of Imam Jafer-e-Sadeq (a.s.)
Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.) said: “When the month of Moharrum would come, smile would disappear from my father’s face ” rather effects of sorrow would appear and tears would be seen on the cheeks. On the eve of Aashuraa,, his (a.s.) sorrow would be at its peak and he (a.s.) would continuously shed tears and would say, ‘Today is the day when my grand-father, Imam Husain (a.s.) was martyred’.”
([Imam Hasan-wa-Imam Husain, Pg 143])

Imam Jafer-e-Sadeq (a.s.) says, ‘Whenever my grandfather, Ali Ibn Husain Zainul Aabedin (a.s.), would remember Imam Husain (a.s.), he would cry to such an extent that his beard would be soaked, and due to his wailing others would also cry.”
([Beharul Anwaar, vol. 45, p. 207].)

Mourning for Imam Husain (a.s.) of Imam Zainul Aabedin (a.s.)
The event of Kerbala had such a deep impact on Imam Zainul Aabedin (a.s.) that tears used to continuously flow from his (a.s.) eyes. He (a.s.) used to remember the tribulations that befell Imam Husain (a.s.), his uncle Hazrat Abbas (a.s.), his brothers and relatives, and weep. Whenever water was presented to him tears would flow from his eyes and he (a.s.) would say “How can I drink water when the son of Holy Prophet (saw) was slaughtered, thirsty?”
([Beharul Anwaar Vol 44 Pg 145])

He (a.s.) would also say, “Whenever I recall the martyrdom of the sons of Hazrat-e-Zahra (s.a.), tears flow from the eyes.”
([Khesaal, vol. 1 Pg 131])

Even though Imam (a.S) had the power the power to overcome of this but He (a.S) did the sabr in order to save Deen-e-Muhammad (S.AW.)
Hazrat Ismael said that I liked the Patience and thankfulness of Imam Hussain.
- (Alal-e-Sharah (Shaykh Sudooq), Pg 59, Urdu. )

The best way to use your eyes, ears and voice is to read, listen and recite about the pak Fazails (attribiutes) and Masaibs (sufferings) of Masoomeens (a.S).
To cry and mourn for Imam Hussain is worship and Tasbeeh.
(Nafs-ul-Mahmoom, Pg 51.)

A true mourner will feel grief in his heart when he drinks water, He remembers the hunger and thirst of the children of Imam Hussain (a.S). He remembers His mazloom Imam Sajjad (a.S) who had to walk 1700 miles with heavy chains.
Imam Sadiq (a.s) says: Inanl Kausar…Husain. The Imam (a.s.) says that the mourners of Husain (a.s.) will on arrival at the Huaz-e-Kausar make the Hauz happy.
(First part of the late Khuyabani's book Muharram Wa Waqqaiyal Aiyaam.)

The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) said:-
O' Fatimah! Every eye shall be weeping on the Day of Judgment except the eye which has shed tears over the tragedy of Husain (A.S.) for surely, that eye shall be laughing and shall be given the glad tidings of the bounties and comforts of Paradise.
(Bihar al-Anwar, vol,: 44;pg,:293).

Allah had made the love of Ahlaybait (a.S) wajib upon us. Without having love in your heart for the Family of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) who gave Islam to this world, who are the heir of Quran...Then all of your emaan (faith) or any act of worship which you perform will never be accepted by Allah.
The enemies of Aalay-e-MuhammAd (s.A.w) are the offspring of Iblees (L).
(Alal-e-Sharah, Sudooq, pg 108, Urdu).

Imam Reza (A.S.) said:
Those who weep should weep over the likes of Husain (A.S.) for surely, weeping over him does away with one's great sins.

Imam e Zamana (a.S) is crying for almost 1400 years. He (a.S) has described his feelings in his own words in ziarat e Nahiya...
Imam Mahdi (a.S) ,
mourns for imam Husayn (a.s) every day - night and day - and he weeps
blood for his great grandfather, as seen from his declaration he makes in
his Zeyarah, known as Zeyarah of Nahiyah:
“. . . now that I could not be with you on the day of Ashura to defend you
and fight your enemies, I shall mourn you every morning and every
evening, and I shall weep blood for you instead of tears . . . ”

O Allah for the sake of Imam Husain (a.s) and for the sake of his companions and their recognition, their sacrifices, their valour, their audacity, their courage, their steadfastness and their worship, You make us like them and include us among the helpers of the Imam of our age – Imam Mahdi (a.s).
May all around year be true demonstration of our love for, and a confluence of emotion, reason and commitment to, Imam Hussain (a.S).
